Hargis Awarded Jody Boes Scholarship

In partnership with Bill and Pam Welter, the Jody Boes Scholarship was set up in 2017, providing nurses pursuing an advance degree at either the Masters or Doctorate level with $2,500 to apply toward their tuition.
Now, during National Nurses Week, the scholarship has been proudly awarded to Melody Hargis. Melody has been a nurse at Door County Medical Center since 2013. She served as Lieutenant Commander in the US Naval reserves until she was called to active duty in October 2006 and sent to Landstuhl, Germany. After her active duty she continued to work for the Department of Defense as a civilian in Germany until her and her family relocated to Door County to be closer to family.
Melody submitted a flawless and expertly written application, essay, curriculum vitae and letters of recommendation. Her philosophy is to lead with her heart, model the way and demonstrate humility.
In the award letter, Jody writes to Melody, “My vision for nursing is to make a difference in the lives of our community through advancing the education of our Registered Nurses. We, as nurses are the eyes, ears and hands that provide continuous assessment, nursing diagnosis, plan of care, implementation and ongoing evaluation to improve the health and well-being of our patients. Thank you for helping that vision become a reality.”
Melody states, “I am truly blessed to have been selected as the first recipient of the Jody Boes scholarship, it is a distinct honor and privilege to receive this award. Jody had an authentic passion for nursing and she exhibited that every day. She utilized advanced knowledge and skills including clinical expertise, evidenced-based practice, collaboration, consultation, education, mentoring, and professional leadership always with a major focus on the organization. Jody helped start me out on my journey to excellence here at DCMC.”
Melody also offers a special thanks to the Welters for their generous donation and the entire scholarship committee who helped make this possible.
The Jody Boes Scholarship is available to eligible candidates of Door County Medical Center who are pursuing an advanced degree in nursing, including but not limited to: MSN; NP; CRNA; PhD; Clinical Nurse Specialist; and Clinical Nurse Leader.
